Sight Word Identification

Who: Sight words are used specifically for children in grades 1-3, but can also be used with struggling readers in all grades.

What: Sight words are a list of words that should be identified quickly in order to increase fluency in reading, writing, and spelling.

When: This assessment can be conducted at any time to determine reason behind the lack of fluency.

Why: Sightwords are used to increase fluency in reading, writing, and spelling.

How: The teacher will choose a list to be used. The teacher will then create a list for the student to look at and then another one for the teacher to record on. The student will read the words. They may skip the words that they do not recognize. The teacher will make a list of the words that the student was able to read at the appropriate level to be used in remedication.
